A Rare Breather for Vladyslav During Oleshky Truce
Vladyslav K. 's team, which still faithfully delivers drinking water to Mykolaiv, also used to deliver water to Kherson, until the road there grew too dangerous. Last week’s short humanitarian truce between Russia and Ukraine around the town of Oleshky, brought a brief reprieve for the team, as Vladyslav explains.
Last week was special for us. Thanks to the declared truce in Oleshky, we in Mykolaiv did not have air raid alerts for several days in a row. For the first time in almost a year and a half we were also able to visit Kherson and pick up the water barrels that we left standing there. Two of the barrels survived, but one that we left in a schoolyard had 27 holes in it from shell fragments.
Two hundred families in Nikopol received a package of humanitarian aid in the form of food and household supplies thanks to the persistence of Karina’s team, We Save Ukraine, in Dnipro. When delivering the aid to Nikopol became extremely dangerous, the team found a way to ship a container of already sorted and formed packages via Nova Poshta, a courier mail service. However, this time the process got delayed by a few weeks, because after attacks on supermarkets and warehouses, there were food shortages in the city. Although the team placed a wholesale order, it took about two weeks for the supplier to be able to fulfill it. Grocery suppliers are now wary of storing their goods due to the risk of losing large quantities to attacks.
