Firewood Deliveries in Kherson Region
Last week the team of Olena and Pavlo Shulha joined the firewood delivery project, supplying 23 tons of firewood to the village of Tavriiske near Kherson. This is the region where our volunteer, Artur Kucheriavenko was murdered by a Russian drone on November 25 2024. We are particularly anxious about deliveries to these areas, but our volunteers insist on supporting communities in the Kherson Region, despite all the risks.
Last week’s delivery was successful, but was not as orderly as we hoped. Just before the truck with the firewood drove into the village, there was an explosion. People who came to unload and receive the firewood hid in the bushes. The volunteers used a tractor to quickly unload the truck. Usually the driver stays for four or five hours to help out, but in this case he was so nervous that he left as soon as the firewood was on the ground, while the volunteers stayed behind to help with the distirubtion. The process could accommodate only two or three families at a time, as a larger crowd might have attracted Russian drones.
Kramatorsk Shelling
Here is an excerpt from Inna’s team report regarding last week’s scheduled delivery to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk (the two cities are nearby):
The situation is getting more escalated. On Saturday, while we were conducting our event in Sloviansk, glide bombs hit Kramatorsk. The tremors were very strong. People who were inside got extremely worried, because they immediately saw smoke coming from the places where they live. Some of them left right away to see what was happening. A nephew of one of the visitors lost his apartment in this strike. It was completely destroyed by these explosions.
Lukas Moser Accompanies Dobra Sprava
Lukas Moser, a journalist from Germany, accompanied Ihor on a difficult evacuation mission this week. The team evacuated a mother with four children. The woman’s husband was declared missing in action three months ago, in the Zaporizhzhia Region. The drive was made perilous by completely iced over roads. Ihor reports that they made it out by the grace of God.
